Video: Baloji "Indépendance cha-cha - Le jour d'après"

LE JOUR D'APRES / SIKU YA BAADAYE (INDEPENDANCE CHA-CHA) from BALOJI on Vimeo.

That's 2 out of 2. Both of the videos Baloji has put out this year have gone straight in to my top 10 of 2010. This is just brilliant. As many of you know it is 50 years of independence for many African countries this year, and of course it's also 50 years since Joseph "Le Grand Kallé" Kabasele Tshamala and Nicolas " Dr. Nico" Kassanda of L'African Jazz, from Baloji's homeland Congo, wrote the classic pan-African hit "Independence Cha Cha".

The video was filmed in Kinshasa, in the "Bon marché" (Barumbu) neighbourhood, and features the late Wendo Kolosoy’s backing band. I love the way parties are such an all ages affair back home, and the incredible stylishness that seems so everyday until it's captured on film. I can't wait for Baloji's album to come out on 15th  September, and hope he plans on making a lot more videos between now and then. If you haven't seen Karibu Ya Bintou yet you can, and must, here.
