Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition

Photobucket

You've got until Monday 17th January if you want to enter the Glastonbury Emerging Talent competition which gives emerging unsigned artists the chance to perform on the main stage at one of the biggest music festivals in the world. It is open to artists from any genre, you don't have to be a guitar wielding mud lover, and rumours abound that Prince and Beyonce are playing this year so it's worth it just to get in.

I'm on the judging panel this year, and I will be objective, but it would be in your best interests if you're entering to only send your very best tracks (on their surprisingly easy application form), because I'm told there will be hundreds we have to sift through and I don't imagine we'll get to track 27 for every act. Good luck!

Yep, I have TWO pairs of tickets to give away for this quite frankly breathtaking line up. All you need to do is email (info@putmeonit.com) with the subject line "Dâm Funk Ticket Competition" or tweet (@putmeonit) me the answer to the simple question below,  by 6pm Friday 27th Aug and I will pick the winners at random.

"What is Dâm Funk's live band called?"

You can find more info on the event here, it's happening at Koko on Saturday 4th September - don't leave it to pay day to buy your tickets if you don't win the competition, that's blatantly everyone else's plan and they'll sell out!

Just to warm you up a little more, check out this new sampler video for Dimlite's forthcoming EP "My Human Wears Acedia Shreds", sounding so juicy it's almost edible.

"Coz Ov Moni" Premiere

My friend M3nsa is starring with Wanlov the Kubolor in the first ever pidgin English musical "Coz Ov Moni". I asked him about it and apparently they're kinda famous over there now - there were thousands in attendance at the National Theatre where it premiered and I'm not surprised, I've seen the movie and it's really good (and I generally hate musicals).

It's set in Accra, Ghana, and the story is about the guys trying to recover the money owed to them by an incredibly fast guy on crutches so they can go out and get some ladies. Will they recover the money? Will Wanlov reveal the secret of whether or not he has underwear on under that cloth? Ooh the suspense...

If you would like to win tickets to the Kete Karpet London premiere at The Ritzy this Thursday 22nd July at 6.15pm send me an email (info@putmeonit.com) by Wednesday at 3pm with the name of Wanlov the Kubolor's last album.

Fancy DJing alongside Grandmaster Flash and Salt n Pepa?

Mixcloud got in touch because they are collaborating with UK electronic music festival BLOC Weekend and London promoters, Man Make Music; they're currently running a competition to win a slot on Man Make Music’s 4 hour Saturday night (13th March) showcase, starring Joy Orbison. The event also features Grandmaster Flash, Salt n Pepa!!, Roots Manuva, Skream & Benga, Derrick May and Nathan Fake, so if you want to DJ along side them check out the info below...

To enter:
1. Put together a 30 minute mix that represents you and what you’d want to play at BLOC, no restrictions.
2. Upload your mix to Mixcloud.com. Make sure you name it “BLOC Make Music 2010 Competition Mix“, and tag it “BLOC competition“. If you fail to tag your mix correctly, it may be missed.
3. Choose some dope artwork. This is not necessarily part of the judging criteria, we just like nice design!

Judging:
1. The winner will be selected by a combination of the community and the judges
2. The community means popularity (number of plays and number of favourites) as well as quality of comments/feedback.
3. The judges will be the Man Make Music team and the BLOC team.

Prize:
1. 1 hour set at the BLOC Weekend on the evening of Saturday 13th March 2010
2. 1 x free entry to BLOC Weekend
3. Respect and kudos from your peers!

The closing date for mix submissions is Friday 22nd January 2010, and the winner will be announced a couple of weeks later. For more info visit the Mixcloud competitions page.
