PUT ME ON IT LIVE – Wed June 12th: Rosie Lowe + Secret Special Guest + Eric Lau + Marshmello

After last months roadblock this is the last PMOI Live event before we head to off Croatia in July and announce some exciting new events for the Autumn, so if you are already a fan or have been meaning to come and check it out, make sure you come to this one. Though we're not allowed to announce who our special guest is, she has been part of the PMOI family from the very beginning, working with some of the most talented producers in the world and blossoming in to one of the UK's most gifted and soulful performers. We are so excited we may have to kidnap ourselves so we don't give it away.

We are also thrilled about the live guest we can announce - we booked the beautiful Rosie Lowe all the way back in March just to make sure we got to work with her before her debut EP, produced by Dave Okumu and Kwes, appears and launches her in to the stratosphere. We genuinely haven't been able to take it off repeat we're so in love with it and with Rosie, so we cannot wait for you to see her perform live with her band.

On DJ duties we welcome back Eric Lau, who has just about recovered from our fantastic sell out show featuring his live band last month, and the nations' favorite (or the part of it with great taste)morning radio show host Marshmello. Since it's the last one for a while we'll be going out with a bang and expect the poor bar staff will have to chuck us out. Again.

I have never been so honoured and so proud as I was at this event, to work with Eric Lau and the incredibly talented group of artists he brought together, and to host their debut show.  To put it simply - it was family, and it was beautiful. I'm so sorry if you didn't get in, but this was only the beginning, there will be so much more. View the rest of the photos by Wayne Thomas on our Facebook page

PUT ME ON IT LIVE – WED APRIL 10TH: Tanya Auclair, ESKA, Eric Lau & Marshmello

This installment of PUT ME ON IT Live features two artists we've been in awe of and supporting since the very start, both performing some brand new material. ESKA is one of the most stunning vocalists and live performers we've ever come across, and it is a huge honor to have her grace our stage. A composer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, the list of artists she has collaborated with - Matthew Herbert, Bobby McFerrin, Zero Seven, Cinematic Orchestra etc - is almost as impressive as the list of her talents (!) We are particularly excited to hear some exclusive new material!

Tanya Auclair is an artist who encapsulates what PUT ME ON IT is all about - independent, original, authentic and moving. Known for her imaginative songwriting and one woman army approach to performance, Tanya is always exciting and intriguing to watch. We had the pleasure of booking her a year ago following her self-produced EPs Thrum and Origami, and we are very excited to hear some new material from the debut album she is currently working on.

On DJ duties we have residents DJ / Producer Eric Lau and Marshmello (NTS / Two Timers) playing eclectic party music that will make you miss the last tube…

PUT ME ON IT LIVE – WED MARCH 13TH: TAWIAH, MAHALIA, ERIC LAU & MARSHMELLO

The internet is a wonderful place to discover music, but nothing can replace the moment you first see an artist live - either they've got something or they haven't. I consider both of the performers we're presenting this month to be two of the most gifted emerging live artists in the UK if not further afield. Tawiah we've been supporting for a long time, since her debut EP "In Jodi's Bedroom" made a real impact on the independent scene. Since then she's written an album we can expect to hear later this year, but before that there is some incredible new music arriving imminently - which you will get to hear live for the very first time at this edition of PMOI Live. Mahalia is a young singer songwriter from Leicester I've had the pleasure of working with and watching grow (at an alarming rate) over the past year. Every time I speak to her she's written a clutch of great new songs about her experiences - always honest, original and catchy. A naturally gifted performer who comes from a musical background, watching her sing her music live is inspiring and exciting. Our resident DJs Eric Lau and Marshmello will be on duty with an eclectic selection that will make you miss the last tube...

Video + Photos: "Hello Skinny" Put Me On It Live @ The Old Queens Head

They say you shouldn't make a Youtube video more than four minutes long. They also say you shouldn't book experimental jazz (or whatever you call this) on a Saturday night. As you can see I don't care what they say.

Hello Skinny is an album and group created by producer Tom Skinner, who has played drums for [insert name of artist you love here], in this instance joined by producer in his own right Crewdson, and revered sax player / flautist Finn Peters. It was such an honour to have them perform at what was a really exciting test run for PUT ME ON IT LIVE at The Old Queens Head on 22nd December 2012 (I can now announce it will be a regular monthly event), alongside London's finest DJs Eric Lau, Marshmello, Kidkanevil, Kutmah and Josey Rebelle.  If you didn't make it - most of London had gone home for Christmas - please enjoy the video by Just Compositions, and photography by Wayne Thomas.

Extra special thanks to co-producer Elles Belles , Jack Prideaux, Mitra, the PRS Foundation and everyone else who lent a hand or came down.

The next event is Feb 13th 2013 with LA Salami, Valentina, Budgie and Marshmello.

Put Me On It Live – Sat 22nd December 2012: Hello Skinny (live), Kidkanevil, Josey Rebelle, Eric Lau & Marshmello

I'm not one for end of year lists (my brain just doesn't work that way), so instead PMOI will be rounding up with a party with some of the people who helped make 2012 awesome musically; Hello Skinny, Kidkanevil, Josey Rebelle, Eric Lau, and Marshmello. There are a limited number of £5 advance tickets on sale here. We'll also be giving away some free tickets in the next couple of weeks on the Facebook page.

Hello Skinny is the musical moniker of talented musician Tom Skinner, and his recently released debut album of the same name. Featured on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood’s Bubbler series this year, his music has been described as psych-dub and cosmic electronic but he is quoted as saying “essentially it’s music from the heart”.

In a lastminute addition to our line up, legendary DJ and visual artist Kutmah will be joining us for a very special set, please just don't ask him for any requests.

Fresh from his European tour with Daisuke Tanabe for their recently released the "Kidsuke" album we have Kidkanevil, Red Bull Music Academy alumni and one of London's best loved hip hop and electronic music DJ/ producers.

Josey Rebelle is one of London's finest DJs, known for her show on Rinse FM and the depth and diversity of her selections - from her legendary Jungle sets, to old school hip hop of the highest order and downright dirty house and boogie; Josey’s musical knowledge and party rocking ability is undisputed.

Marshmello is the host of the beloved Morning Marauders show on NTS radio. An artist in her own right, another Red Bull Music Academy alumni, Roots Manuva collaborator, and 7" record devotee, Marshmello will be playing a set strictly for the shape makers.

As ever, our resident and PMOI family member DJ / producer Eric Lau will be joining us, taking a well earned break from finishing his second album. Renowned for his uplifting, deep and soulful sets, Eric will be making sure our last event of the year is truly memorable.

It has been a long time in the making, so long in fact that after trawling through 475 songs I had enough for three compilations, which I will be dropping once a week for the next three weeks. The cover of this one features Micachu, whose song "OK" appeals to a part of me I can't explain - either you have a thoughtful five year old punk inside or you don't. As ever, it's unlikely you'll enjoy everything on here, but I hope you'll listen with an open mind and support the artists whose music you do like...

In Photos: PUT ME °N IT @ Soundwave Festival Croatia 2012

PUT ME °N IT was first invited to curate a stage at Soundwave Festival Croatia in 2010, which was a huge honour  and pleasure. We returned for Soundwave 2012 with a bigger and better line up - in total there were 15 of us - for a beach party on the Saturday afternoon and a main stage session on the Sunday afternoon. The beach party included DJ sets from ESKA who played a valiant and brilliantly eclectic set through technical turbulence, Ghostpoet whose was session so full of in your face heaters I can't imagine what the hell he plays at night, and Eric Lau who took us on a musical journey from J Dilla to Jimi Hendrix. Tranqill hopped on the mic to host and the rest of the crew came out to dance and support. The beach stage at the new site is truly a site to behold; situated directly over the turquoise water, half the crowd is partying in the sea and the other half is in their swimwear dancing and sunning themselves in front of the DJ booth, splashing about in the shallows sipping smoothies, or chilling on the rocks underneath the shade of the pine trees.

The Sunday afternoon live session on the main stage was a very special moment for us. It takes a lot to attract the crowd away from the water down at the beach stage, but by the end of our session we'd managed to do just that. Szjerdene and her band started us off, her mellifluous tones stopping passers by in their tracks, glamorous long black dress and hair billowing in the wind. Tanya Auclair followed with her quirky  yet catchy alt-pop and impressive one-woman band set up, flooring the audience as she artfully multi-tasked between uke, synth, percussion, looper and voice to create crunchy layers of juicy goodness. UK rapper/ producer Tranqill quite literally burst forth with his short and anything but sweet set of gritty tales that brought South London to the Dalmatian coast for an exciting, tension-filled minute. Tranqill's set was hosted by regular collaborator, Washington DC's rapper/producer extraordinaire Oddisee, who showed his experience and skill as a live artist, delivering a charismatic and passionate set of songs from his recently released debut album. Tawiah and her live band came next, and if there were any stragglers queueing for a beer before she took the mic, there were none afterwards as that incredible voice soared over the site and commanded their attention. For many people the highlight of the festival, Tawiah skanked, rocked and literally tore up the stage (her drummer The PSM jumped on top of the drum kit at one point, as the stage crew looked on in horror but couldn't stop filming it on their camera phones). We finished with newcomer Anna Meredith, an accomplished classical composer whose new electronic material is easily some of the most exciting I've heard since I first stumbled across a young man named Steve Ellison six years ago, and whose performance elicited at least one marriage proposal. Eric Lau held the afternoon together DJing in between sets, and the stage crew somehow managed to stay calm despite my very ambitious programming.  Video coming soon...
