PMOI Live @ Bootstrap Company Summer Party

pmoibootstrap Our friends at The Bootstrap Company invited PMOI to curate the live music for their annual summer party at Dalston Roof Park, and we were only too happy to oblige. Somehow we managed to blag our musical heroes The Invisible for a DJ set, it was the perfect excuse to invite Denai Moore along to play before she goes stellar (and whose beautiful Saudade EP we've had on repeat for 6 months, after PMOI events intern extraordinaire Amina thrust it under my nose), in keeping with the mixed events of the day we have poetry (a first!) from the witty and provocative Musa Okwonga, and a party ain't a party without a DJ set from NTS Radio's morning marauder Marshmello.

There will also be lots of other activities on the day - a four storey mural, the launch of the Bootstrap Campus, swing dance lessons in a bunker, a design exhibition, comedy from Hackney's finest Kojo and various other amusements in and around the Bootstrap Company's various spaces. Tickets are only £3 but they're going fast...

PUT ME ON IT LIVE – Wed June 12th: Rosie Lowe + Secret Special Guest + Eric Lau + Marshmello

After last months roadblock this is the last PMOI Live event before we head to off Croatia in July and announce some exciting new events for the Autumn, so if you are already a fan or have been meaning to come and check it out, make sure you come to this one. Though we're not allowed to announce who our special guest is, she has been part of the PMOI family from the very beginning, working with some of the most talented producers in the world and blossoming in to one of the UK's most gifted and soulful performers. We are so excited we may have to kidnap ourselves so we don't give it away.

We are also thrilled about the live guest we can announce - we booked the beautiful Rosie Lowe all the way back in March just to make sure we got to work with her before her debut EP, produced by Dave Okumu and Kwes, appears and launches her in to the stratosphere. We genuinely haven't been able to take it off repeat we're so in love with it and with Rosie, so we cannot wait for you to see her perform live with her band.

On DJ duties we welcome back Eric Lau, who has just about recovered from our fantastic sell out show featuring his live band last month, and the nations' favorite (or the part of it with great taste)morning radio show host Marshmello. Since it's the last one for a while we'll be going out with a bang and expect the poor bar staff will have to chuck us out. Again.

I have never been so honoured and so proud as I was at this event, to work with Eric Lau and the incredibly talented group of artists he brought together, and to host their debut show.  To put it simply - it was family, and it was beautiful. I'm so sorry if you didn't get in, but this was only the beginning, there will be so much more. View the rest of the photos by Wayne Thomas on our Facebook page

PUT ME ON IT LIVE – WED APRIL 10TH: Tanya Auclair, ESKA, Eric Lau & Marshmello

This installment of PUT ME ON IT Live features two artists we've been in awe of and supporting since the very start, both performing some brand new material. ESKA is one of the most stunning vocalists and live performers we've ever come across, and it is a huge honor to have her grace our stage. A composer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, the list of artists she has collaborated with - Matthew Herbert, Bobby McFerrin, Zero Seven, Cinematic Orchestra etc - is almost as impressive as the list of her talents (!) We are particularly excited to hear some exclusive new material!

Tanya Auclair is an artist who encapsulates what PUT ME ON IT is all about - independent, original, authentic and moving. Known for her imaginative songwriting and one woman army approach to performance, Tanya is always exciting and intriguing to watch. We had the pleasure of booking her a year ago following her self-produced EPs Thrum and Origami, and we are very excited to hear some new material from the debut album she is currently working on.

On DJ duties we have residents DJ / Producer Eric Lau and Marshmello (NTS / Two Timers) playing eclectic party music that will make you miss the last tube…

PUT ME ON IT LIVE – WED MARCH 13TH: TAWIAH, MAHALIA, ERIC LAU & MARSHMELLO

The internet is a wonderful place to discover music, but nothing can replace the moment you first see an artist live - either they've got something or they haven't. I consider both of the performers we're presenting this month to be two of the most gifted emerging live artists in the UK if not further afield. Tawiah we've been supporting for a long time, since her debut EP "In Jodi's Bedroom" made a real impact on the independent scene. Since then she's written an album we can expect to hear later this year, but before that there is some incredible new music arriving imminently - which you will get to hear live for the very first time at this edition of PMOI Live. Mahalia is a young singer songwriter from Leicester I've had the pleasure of working with and watching grow (at an alarming rate) over the past year. Every time I speak to her she's written a clutch of great new songs about her experiences - always honest, original and catchy. A naturally gifted performer who comes from a musical background, watching her sing her music live is inspiring and exciting. Our resident DJs Eric Lau and Marshmello will be on duty with an eclectic selection that will make you miss the last tube...

Photos: L.A. Salami & Valentina @ Put Me On It Live 13th Feb 2013

Whilst we finish editing the videos I can't wait for you to see, here's a selection of photos from our last event. It was really exciting to catch two completely different artists right before they both undoubtedly make significant waves on the festival circuit later this year. L.A. Salami is a poet at heart who can't switch it off (just try asking how he is if you're up for an existential journey), and his performance was both thought provoking and inspiring. Valentina is one of those artists who commits every part of themselves to the moment, her soundcheck left me in tears and you could hear a pin drop during her stunning performance of "Gabriel". As always, Marshmello played an extremely juicy and eclectic and DJ set, and special guest Budgie kept us on the floor when the lights came up with rare groove, rare soul, and a whole bunch of other rare stuff.

A huge thank you to our photographer Wayne Thomas, see the full selection on our Facebook page.

PUT ME ON IT LIVE – Wed Feb 13th: L.A. Salami, Valentina, Budgie & Marshmello

After our test run in December at our new home The Old Queens Head, we're excited to announce a regular live monthly night, bringing PUT ME ON IT to life and presenting the most exciting emerging artists we can find. The first session is on Wednesday February 13th, with Valentina, a singer songwriter I've been writing about since early 2011. Her debut EP "Weights" is stunning, and you've probably heard "Gabriel" the Joe Goddard song she featured on. L.A. Salami I came across when he supported Lianne LaHavas a year ago, and have been a fan of ever since. On DJ duties we have Budgie (Livin Proof / Honest Johns) and Marshmello (NTS / 7s Unda The Stairs / Two Timers). flyer

Video + Photos: "Hello Skinny" Put Me On It Live @ The Old Queens Head

They say you shouldn't make a Youtube video more than four minutes long. They also say you shouldn't book experimental jazz (or whatever you call this) on a Saturday night. As you can see I don't care what they say.

Hello Skinny is an album and group created by producer Tom Skinner, who has played drums for [insert name of artist you love here], in this instance joined by producer in his own right Crewdson, and revered sax player / flautist Finn Peters. It was such an honour to have them perform at what was a really exciting test run for PUT ME ON IT LIVE at The Old Queens Head on 22nd December 2012 (I can now announce it will be a regular monthly event), alongside London's finest DJs Eric Lau, Marshmello, Kidkanevil, Kutmah and Josey Rebelle.  If you didn't make it - most of London had gone home for Christmas - please enjoy the video by Just Compositions, and photography by Wayne Thomas.

Extra special thanks to co-producer Elles Belles , Jack Prideaux, Mitra, the PRS Foundation and everyone else who lent a hand or came down.

The next event is Feb 13th 2013 with LA Salami, Valentina, Budgie and Marshmello.
