Sometimes it’s worth stopping to think about how incredibly recent it is that an artist could explode this quickly. For some people like Lianne, a natural performer and songwriter, it’s a great thing. For a writer so young this song has such a timeless vein of universal truth running through it, which is probably why so many of the Youtube comments involve crying. There’s certainly something about the direct to camera delivery that’s reminiscent of the horrible moment you catch yourself crying in the mirror and it suddenly feels even worse. Or so I’m told, ahem.
Lianne is currently on tour in Europe throughout the spring/ summer.

This collection is pretty much how my year in music looked, or at least how my year in free music looked (according to my iTunes I listened to Feist so much they’ll probably report me for stalking).
The “cover star” is Lianne La Havas. For me she’s a great example of the kind of talent coming out of the UK at the moment, making really incredible music but who a couple of years ago might have been stuffed unfairly in to a small box or passed over entirely as a marketing nightmare, instead in 2011 she was taking the industry by storm.
Whilst usually I would only expect most people to enjoy a handful of tracks from the usual “We Love” compilations, this really is a no-brainer selection of great music, so if you only download one from PMOI, let it be this one.
Music is never really “free”, the artists who make it and generously share it with us put their all in to it and deserve our ears and our support, so please listen, spread the word, buy their albums and go to see them live.
