I started the “Last Night On Earth” podcast with a desire to discover the music that means most to some of the people in music who inspire me. The first was by producer Eric Lau, and after a long absence, the next is by Robin Hannibal. Robin’s face and name may not be the most familiar, but he produces for Quadron, Boomclap Bachelors, Owusu and Hannibal, Louie and most recently the internet conquering Rhye (amongst other projects).
In my opinion Robin is one of the most talented emerging artists in the world right now and we’re lucky enough to catch him on the cusp of huge things, and I’m so glad because this mix is a glorious combination of subtle Scandinavians, deeply intelligent composers and the ultimate in soulful pop music – a true reflection of Robin’s own work. Even the R.Kelly track.
I asked talented LA based photographer Angie Smith to meet up with Robin to take these photos, and she captured a wistful gaze at sunset I think really helps set the mood. – AI

Welcome to my selection of songs that I couldn’t live without. They all have a special place in my heart for different reasons. Some inspire, some touch me, some make me jealous. – RH

It has been a long time in the making, so long in fact that after trawling through 475 songs I had enough for three compilations, which I will be dropping once a week for the next three weeks. The cover of this one features Micachu, whose song “OK” appeals to a part of me I can’t explain – either you have a thoughtful five year old punk inside or you don’t. As ever, it’s unlikely you’ll enjoy everything on here, but I hope you’ll listen with an open mind and support the artists whose music you do like…
(Disclaimer+)This collection is pretty much how my year in music looked, or at least how my year in free music looked (according to my iTunes I listened to Feist so much they’ll probably report me for stalking).
The “cover star” is Lianne La Havas. For me she’s a great example of the kind of talent coming out of the UK at the moment, making really incredible music but who a couple of years ago might have been stuffed unfairly in to a small box or passed over entirely as a marketing nightmare, instead in 2011 she was taking the industry by storm.
Whilst usually I would only expect most people to enjoy a handful of tracks from the usual “We Love” compilations, this really is a no-brainer selection of great music, so if you only download one from PMOI, let it be this one.
Music is never really “free”, the artists who make it and generously share it with us put their all in to it and deserve our ears and our support, so please listen, spread the word, buy their albums and go to see them live.
